FREEDOM

FREEDOM IS JUST ANOTHER NAME FOR NOTHING ELSE TO DO

            BUT YOU AIN'T NOTHING

            IF YOU AIN'T FREE

I finished Freedom by Jonathan Franzen-all 562 pages.  It took me all weekend.  I had to read it.  It cost me $28.  It was the perfect Sepotember 11th weekend reading material.   Also it was excellent for a vehemently anti-Cape Wind Cape Cod citizen.  Most excellent.  But it did not change my viewpoint on the industrialization of Cape Cod waters by Cape Wind.

You don't need to read Freedom to know the coal industry is corrupt  about the environment and their workers.  You just have to see the miners stuck for months 2000 feet below ground in Chile to know the evils of mining.  How Green Was My Valley let us know.  We all cried.  We've cried for years over the West Virginia miners in Appalachia.

It's all far removed from us.  We just turn up the heat in the winter and the air conditioner in the summer.  Cape Wind and The Gulf Oil Well Disaster bring it right to our beaches.  We can't put our head in the sand and deny the mess energy production makes of the world.  We can ask them to put Clean Energy where we can't see it not on our beaches or waterways.

So the same hot shots who decimate West Virginia and the Gulf of Mexico now want to ruin Nantucket Sound.  Put those wind turbines elsewhere not in the only part of Cape Cod without a monument to MAN'S greed and self interest.

Put Wind Turbines on the polluted lands of America not in our ocean playground.

  2. The federal government just gave Cape Wind a 28 year lease on 25 miles of water off of CAP COD for less than 1 million per year for 28 years to put up 130 wind turbines. EACH TURBINE IS THE SIZE OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. SUPPOSEDLY IT WILL PROVIDE 75% of Cape Cod's electricity.
What it will provide is a mess in the waters off Cape Cod, environmental problems for ocean life and a great deal of money for the NY developers of the project.
