ON THE INDIAN RIVER- TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA |
I WAS ON THE WALKWAY OVER THE SAND DUNES AT THE PLAYALINDA BEACH NEAR TITUSVILLE,FLORIDA. THE SAND DUNES STRETCH ALONG THE ATLANTIC UNSPOILED FOR 25 MILES AT THIS CANAVERAL NATIONAL SEASHORE. AS I TOOK OFF MY SNEAKERS BEFORE I WALKED DOWN TO THE OCEAN, I STRUCK UP A CONVERSATION WITH A SLIM 60 OR 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN WEARING A TEE SHIRT THAT SAID IN RHINESTONES "WILD WOMAN." SHE HAD JUST MOTORCYCLED DOWN FROM DAYTONA. UP THERE SHE MANAGED AN RV PARK AND SOLD RV'S. SHE HAD JSUT SOLD TOW IN A VERY SLOW MARKET SO NOW SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO VISIT HER SISTER IN PIGEON FORK,NORTH CAROLINA. RED LIVED ON A LIMITED INCOME FROM HER WIDOW'S SOCIAL SECURITY AND OCCASIONAL MOBILE HOME SALE. SHE INCREASE IN GAS PRICES UP T ALMOST $4.00 A GALLON WAS HITTING HER HARD. SO SHE HAD TO RIDE HER BIKE OR STAY HOME. HER HUSBAND HAD HAD ALZHEIMERS FOR 15 YEARS BEFORE HE DIED. SHE HAD BEEN A VERY COLD WOMAN BEFORE SHE MARRIED HIM. EVERY TIME SHE PASSED BY,HE WOULD TOUCH HER. THAT SOFTENED HER UP. THE WILD WOMAN HAD JUST WRITTEN THE EDITOR TO LAMENT THE WAY DAYTONA WAS BEING RUN. THE TOWN WAS SPENDING $300.000 FOR A N EXPERT TO TELL THEM WHAT THE TOWN NEEDED TO SURVIVE IN TIGHT ECONOMIC TIMES. RED SAID SHE'D TELL THEM FOR FREE. SO IF YOU NEED A MOBILE HOME, I KNOW A WILD WOMAN IN DAYTONA FOR YOU.
THE DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS WERE IN TITUSVILLE THIS WEEKEND OF THE SCRUBBED ENDEAVOUR SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH. IT'S A NEW MUSICAL COMEDY BY JEFFREY LANE ABOUT CON ARTISTS,JEWEL THIEVES AND FLIM FLAM ARTISTS ON THE RIVIERA IN EUROPE. THE TITUSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL THEATER HAD SUPERB SOUND,MICROPHONES AND STAGE. IT WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL WITH EXCELLENT SETS,ORCHESTRA,ACTING,CHOREOGRAPHY AND SINGING.
IT WAS HARD TO SEE THAT THESE WERE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE PRODUCTION RIVALED ANYTHING ON BROADWAY,THE KING CENTER OR ORLANDO. IT WAS ONLY $10 AND WORTH MUCH MORE. THE ORCHESTRA WAS AMAZING AND MUCH BIGGER THAN YOU'D EVER HAVE ON BROADWAY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS CANNED MUSIC. IT WAS ONLY AT INTERMISSION WHEN AUDIENCE CAME DOWN TO THE ORCHESTRA PIT THAT I REALIZED IT WAS LIVE.

MANY MORE PERFORMANCES SHOULD BE DONE AT THIS GREAT THEATER. IT COULD RIVAL THE KING CENTER AND IS NEEDED IN TITUSVILLE WHICH IS A GOOD HOUR FROM BEAUTIFUL DOWNTOWN VIERA. IT WOULD BE A SOURCE OF REVENUE FOR THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. I'LL GET THE WILD WOMAN FROM DAYTONA WORING ON THIS ASAP.
